Christchurch-based National MP Aaron Gilmore is delighted with the Education and Science Select Committee report recommendation for a review of secondary school needs in North East Christchurch.
“As a parent and an MP living in the community, I am pleased that the Select Committee has agreed that there is a need to undertake a full review following my petition which was supported by 3,664 local people,” said Mr Gilmore.
“This is an issue that prior Governments had refused to do anything about and which led to my helping to establish the North East Secondary Education Group. Our community is diverse and growing rapidly and the needs of our kids have been ignored for far too long.
“I am proud to be part of a Government that listens and acts and I look forward to working with the Education Minister Anne Tolley, the community and the local stakeholders to resolve the community concerns about the need for local secondary school provision.”
